Quick answer
Pay yearly, not monthly. The Personal plan drops from $9 to $4 a month, and you get a custom domain free for the first year.
WordPress.com is the hosted version of WordPress, run by Automattic. You do not rent a server or install anything: you sign up, pick a plan, and your site is online. This guide covers what each plan costs right now, what you get for the money, and the simple ways to pay less.

How to pay less
- Pay yearly, not monthly. This is the biggest saving and it needs no coupon. The Personal plan is $9 a month when you pay month by month, but $4 a month when you pay for a year, which is 55% less. Premium drops from $18 to $8 in the same way.
- Take a longer term if you are sure. Two-year and three-year plans cut the monthly price further, down to $2.75 for Personal on a three-year term. You pay the full term up front, so only do this if you know you will keep the site.
- Use the free domain. Paid plans bought for one year or longer include a custom domain free for the first year. Monthly plans do not include it. Remember that the domain renews at the normal price from the second year.
- Start on the Free plan. You can build the site first and upgrade when you are ready to use your own domain and remove WordPress.com ads.
What each plan is for
Free
A site on a WordPress.com subdomain with 1 GB of storage. WordPress.com shows its own ads to your visitors and you cannot use a custom domain. Good for trying the platform, not for a business.
Personal
Removes the WordPress.com ads, adds a custom domain, 6 GB of storage and premium themes. A sensible choice for a personal blog or a simple portfolio.
Premium
Everything in Personal, plus 13 GB of storage, video uploads, more detailed visitor statistics, and PayPal and Stripe payment buttons. Suits a blog or small site that is starting to earn money.
Business
The plan for a serious site: 50 GB of storage, real-time backups, priority support around the clock, and developer tools such as SFTP, SSH, WP-CLI and GitHub deployments.
Commerce
Everything in Business, plus WooCommerce store tools, premium store themes and unlimited products. Built for online shops.
Is WordPress.com right for you?
It is a good fit if you want a site without managing a server. Updates, security and backups are handled for you, and you can move up a plan as the site grows.
Look at ordinary web hosting instead if you want full control over a low-cost site. With self-hosted WordPress (the free software from WordPress.org installed on your own hosting), you can use any plugin or theme from day one, often for less money, but you look after updates, backups and security yourself.
Plugin access on WordPress.com has changed between plans over time. If a particular plugin matters to you, check the plan comparison before you pay.
Is there a WordPress.com coupon code?
The WordPress.com pricing page does not list any coupon code at the moment. The discounts it shows come from the billing term you choose, as in the table above. If WordPress.com runs a sale, for example around Black Friday, we will update this page.
How to sign up
- Go to WordPress.com and create your site.
- Choose a plan, then pick yearly billing or longer to get the lower price and the free domain.
- Search for your domain name and add it to the order.
- Check the total and the renewal price on the checkout page before you pay.
